E10 - Kathleen Kim
Kathleen Kim talks about her mom's hyper criticism of her (but came around after Kathleen beat cancer), how her dad's sense of humor and bluntness inspired her to create a Dad in a Bear Suit character, and how much she loves seeing her daughter being a good friend. Kathleen helped create and puppeteers Jiyoung and Elena on Sesame Street. She's an actor, voiceover artist, and see her perform as Dad in a Bear Suit in NYC!
E9 - Saying I Love You Isn't Natural
E8 - Venessa Diaz - Doing Art for My Ancestors
Venessa Diaz is a writer, performer, and activist for the disability community. We talk about Venessa’s rocky relationship with her mother, her father’s social anxiety, what advocating an artistic community does her for children, two of whom are twins with Down syndrome. Venessa also talks about how writing and performing opened up her understanding of the trauma the women in her family faced.
E7 - Ritch Duncan - You Can Do It
Ritch Duncan grew up in suburban Massachusetts as the middle child to his father who was a teacher and his mother who was a Unitarian Universalist minister. So it's no wonder he became a standup comedian -- communicating to the masses. Ritch talks with Joon about his father's dry sense of humor, how his mother was punk rock for being in a leadership role in the church, his relationship to finances, and his proudest achievement in seeing how independent his daughter's become.
E6 - Thank You Penny
When I was on paternity leave, I recorded a few thank you's to my daughter. This episode, I listen back to that recording and offer my gratitude to Penny.
