Jambo Waafrika
In this episode, we delve into the diverse mathematical practices that existed in various African cultures before colonization. Inspired by the book "Africa Counts: Number and Pattern in African Culture" by Claudia Zaslavsky, we explore the ways in which Africans used mathematical concepts in trade, architecture, weaving, music, and games. We challenge the stereotype that African societies were not mathematically advanced before contact with the West and shed light on the depth and complexity of African mathematical practices.
