Join Jonathan I. Shenkman [https://www.linkedin.com/in/shenkman/], President & CIO of ParkBridge Wealth Management [https://www.parkbridgewealth.com/], as he goes “IN FOCUS” to explore more advanced wealth planning topics.         This week, we go IN FOCUS where we explore more advanced wealth planning topics.         Today, we are joined by Asher Lowenstein [https://lowensteinlegal.com/about/] Founder of Lowenstein Legal PLLC based in Long Island, NY. Asher will be discussing “Designing Resilient Estate Plans: Planning to Avoid Litigation.” By way of background, many estate and trust disputes arise from planning decisions that unintentionally leave room for conflict. This program examines common sources of litigation involving children, surviving spouses, and outside parties, and equips planners and advisors with concrete steps to address them. This episode will explore how structural planning choices, family dynamics, and documentation practices can each mitigate or magnify the likelihood of breakdown. By the end of this show, listeners should leave with a clear framework for identifying where disputes tend to originate and the tools to build estate plans that hold up when families don't. ***UPCOMING LIVE SPRING WEBINAR: My next webinar is Tuesday, June 9th @ 8:30am on “Don’t Lien on Me: How to Discharge IRS and NYS Tax Liens” featuring Scott Kestenbaum and Jill Monoson from the firm Kestenbaum & Mark LLP based in Long Island, NY.. Episode 162: Gambling, Gold, Advisory Fees, And Why Dividend Yields Are Falling

Join Jonathan I. Shenkman, President and Chief Investment Officer of ParkBridge Wealth Management, this week as he discusses a variety of timely investing and financial planning topics, including:         1.   Talking points: Where Does Gambling Fit into My Investment Strategy? 2.   This week’s quote is from Jim Carrey on why everyone should be rich and famous. 3.   Why shouldn’t I put all my money into the Nasdaq or tech stocks just because they’ve been the best‑performing asset class for the past 15 years? 4.   I’m retired and already have 40% of my assets in income annuities. I received an inheritance that now makes up the remaining 60%, and my advisor wants me to put another 20% into a low‑cost annuity. Is that appropriate? 5.   My CPA made mistakes on my tax return this year. Should I replace her, or would that be an overreaction? 6.   My advisor rebalances my account annually, but because the market has risen, selling gains will trigger significant taxes. Is rebalancing still worth it given the tax hit? 7.   With interest rates falling, where should I keep my cash? Are short‑duration bond funds or mortgage bonds better options given their higher yields? 8.   Gold has been surging. Should I include it as part of my portfolio? 9.   I look at my monthly statements and wonder how much more money I’d have if I didn’t pay an advisor and managed everything myself. Is that a reasonable concern? 10. Why are dividend yields lower today than in past decades? 11. Timely & Actionable Idea: Simplify your financial life leading up to retirement.   ***Upcoming Live SPRING Webinar: On THURSDAY, MAY 28th @ 8:30am featuring Asher Lowenstein, Esq. Episode 161: IN FOCUS: Hot Topics in State Tax Residency - Audit Enforcement and Wealth Taxes with Tim Noonan (Hodgson Russ)

Today, we are joined by Timothy Noonan [https://www.hodgsonruss.com/people/Timothy-Noonan] from the law firm Hodgson Russ LLP based in Buffalo and New York City. Tim will be discussing “Hot Topics in State Tax Residency: Audit Enforcement and Wealth Taxes.”   By way of background, as taxpayers continue to flee high-tax jurisdictions, states are continuing to ramp up audit and enforcement efforts. Over the past year, New York City has been a focal point, with fears about what a new mayoral administration will mean for life (and taxes) in the City and the corresponding increase in tax enforcement that’s expected. On the other side of the country, the possibility of an unprecedented wealth tax is not only spooking many of that state’s wealthiest taxpayers (and sparking an exodus out of the state), but it’s also causing consternation for high-net worth taxpayers across the country, with fears that a California wealth tax could be the start of similar dominoes falling in many other states. In this session, we’ll review the latest trends in state tax enforcement in the residency area, with a focus on New York. We’ll also explain what’s happening in California and talk about the possibilities of wealth taxes spreading to other states.   ***UPCOMING LIVE SPRING WEBINAR: My next webinar is on Thursday, May 28th @ 8:30am on “Designing Resilient Estate Plans: Planning to Avoid Litigation” featuring Asher Lowenstein, Esq., Founder of Lowenstein Legal PLLC based in Long Island, NY. Episode 159: IN FOCUS: Qualified Charitable Distributions: Rules, Opportunities, and Tax Traps with Lisa Presser and Brian Balduzzi (Faegre Drinker)

Today, we are joined by Lisa Presser [https://www.faegredrinker.com/en/professionals/p/presser-lisa-s#tab-Overview] and Brian Balduzzi [https://www.faegredrinker.com/en/professionals/b/balduzzi-brian-m#tab-Overview]both from the law firm Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath based in Princeton, NJ & Philadelphia, PA. Brian and Lisa will be discussing “Qualified Charitable Distributions: Rules, Opportunities, and Tax Traps for 2026 and Beyond.”   By way of background, since 2006, certain qualifying individuals have been able to distribute a portion of their individual retirement accounts to qualified charities while excluding these distributions from their taxable income. The rules related to making these qualified charitable distributions (“QCDs”) have evolved over the years, most recently under the SECURE Act and SECURE Act 2.0. While simple in theory, the QCD rules can be a tax trap or missed opportunity for investors. As families consider their tax and charitable planning for 2026 and beyond, their advisors should review the rules, the best practices and traps for consulting with clients on making QCDs in a timely and efficient manner.   ***UPCOMING LIVE SPRING WEBINAR: My next webinar is on Tuesday, May 12th featuring Timothy P.
