Lessons They Don't Want You To Know
Episode 10: Initiative Graveyard Why do so many educational reforms arrive with great promise, only to fade away a few years later? I began this episode intending to answer one question: Does Standards-Based Grading work? Instead, I uncovered a much larger pattern. As I examined Standards-Based Grading, RTI, MTSS, and PBIS, I found myself asking the same question over and over again: What happens when the first interventions aren't enough? On paper, these frameworks make sense. They identify struggling students, provide increasing levels of support, and promise intensive intervention for those who need it most. But what happens when that final level of support never fully materializes? In this episode, I explore the gap between educational frameworks and their implementation, why identifying a problem isn't the same as solving it, and why we may be judging some reforms before they've ever been built the way they were intended. If you've ever wondered why so many well-intentioned educational reforms struggle to produce the results everyone hoped for, this episode is for you.
