Descripción

Waste Management Division Manager Jeff Orlandini joined Steve this month to talk about challenges we are facing in our solid waste management system. Lane County operates one of best-managed landfills in Oregon, offers more rural transfer sites than any other county in the state, and benefits from an award-winning recycling program. That system is in danger because a Texas company that owns Sanipac, Ecosort and County Transfer & Recycling is taking the waste it collects from Lane County and trucking it hundreds of miles away.

Mokrohisky Minutes: May 2026

Budget & Financial Planning Manager Christine Moody returned to give an update on the budget process and Senior Operations Analyst Jeff Kincaid joined me to talk about the work of the Financial Exploration Team.  The Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget was approved by the Budget Committee on May 20 and is currently awaiting final adoption by the Board of County Commissioners on June 23.  On June 9, the Board held a public hearing on the approved budget and began deliberations. The Board is expected to finish deliberating on any possible adjustments and adopt the budget next Tuesday. That meeting will be broadcast live online [https://www.youtube.com/@lanecountypublicmeetings3058].  * Read the proposed budget document here. Your work is appreciated.

Mokrohisky Minutes: February 2026

Hello, Lane County employees. After a winter hiatus, we are back with new episodes of Mokrohisky Minutes. This month, Assistant County Administrator Greg Rikhoff and I had a chance to talk about some of the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead in 2026. We covered funding, the effect of changes to federal programs, efforts to fund public safety, progress on our behavioral health stabilization center, and the work to update our Lane Events Center Master Plan.  We are also launching this series as a podcast for employees! Last year, we received feedback that a video isn’t a great format for people who work in the field.  Here are links to several of the programs or initiatives Greg and I talked about in this episode: ·       Community Justice and Rehabilitation Services Department [https://www.lanecounty.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=3585881&pageId=19124206] ·       Deflection Program Dashboard [https://app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrIjoiNDhmOTNiMTAtMzRkOS00ZTg1LWI3MGItZWUyZmFhN2Q3ZWQ3IiwidCI6Ijc0ZGY1YTIyLTgyNmUtNDk0Mi05YTc0LTFkMTk5OTc0ZGVkZiJ9] ·       Budget Kickoff Presentation [https://pub-lanecounty.escribemeetings.com/FileStream.ashx?DocumentId=1174] ·       Budget Kickoff Recording [https://www.youtube.com/live/w7TcwOhidhE?si=aimmpyN3zSLxQNi3&t=736] ·       Public Safety Funding Task Force Report [https://cdnsm5-hosted.civiclive.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_3585797/File/Government/County%20Departments/News/PSFTF_Report_Accessible.pdf] ·       Stabilization Center Webpage [https://www.lanecountyor.gov/government/county_departments/health_and_human_services/behavioral_health/lane_stabilization_center] ·       LEC Master Plan Webpage [https://www.lecmasterplan.org/]
