Bolivia Carmichaels and Leslie Kimiko Ward

Hosted by Portland Queer Comedy Festival founder and comedian Belinda Carroll, My First Gay Bar is a raucous romp through the Gay Bars of the world, through the eyes of people's first time. When did they first start going to gay bars? Where was civil rights then? If they are queer, were they out? What did they expect? How did it change them? Does the place still exist? On this first gay bar, we start at Belinda ground zero, the City Nightclub in Portland, Oregon and two of the performers she started entertainment with Bolivia Carmichaels and Leslie Kimiko Ward. Bolivia was the 2022 Grand Marshall for Portland Pride, is a 20 year vet of Portland's drag scene. the resident Queen at CC Slaughters and a regular performer at Darcelle XV and Company. Leslie is an award winning dancer, teacher and activist who's project 1000 Cranes For Alaska was adopted by the University of Anchorage to promote suicide prevention. Leslie and I also have the exact same taste in women and hung out at the same clubs in our 20's. It's a ride.
