Naked History
In the final episode of Naked History’s 250th special, we descend into the basement of the American Experiment — the place where the house keeps its machinery. After independence, the Revolution had to become a government. That meant debt, unpaid soldiers, postwar unrest, constitutional arguments, and the uneasy question of whether the new republic could survive itself. From there, we follow the long shadow of expansion, the hunger for land, the violence of removal, the polishing of national memory, and the Civil War as the terrible return of the founding contradiction. Then we step onto the porch and ask what comes next. What does patriotism look like when it tells the truth? What does commemoration owe to complexity? Can a country be loved without being lied to? This is not the end of the American Experiment. It is a look at the house we inherited, the ghosts still asking questions, and the unfinished work of the next 250 years.
