Mayor Ron Shinnick of Cohutta, Georgia appointed his wife Pam as town clerk when he took office in 2014, creating an immediate conflict of interest. The council unanimously terminated her in January for creating a hostile work environment. She kept showing up anyway, withheld officer paychecks, and retained access to confidential employee records. Six officers filed formal complaints. The mayor promised their jobs were safe — then fired the entire force days later, calling their complaints 'inappropriate comments.' The now-jobless officers are protected under Georgia's Whistleblower Protection Act, exposing the town to serious civil liability. The council held an emergency session, reinstated the department, and passed a 30-day emergency ordinance blocking the mayor from disbanding them again. The mayor left the building before the vote. His resignation was tabled indefinitely. A petty act of retaliation that left an entire town without police protection — and this mayor still has his job. #CohuttaGeorgia #MayorFired Learn more about your ad choices.
