A former fire cadet, police dispatcher, fire dispatcher and EMT who also worked as an ER nurse at a Trauma hospital for 17 years, Tricia Serfas has lived her entire life as a first responder.  While she always felt immense pride at being of service, it also took an immense toll on her over time. Her training more than equipped her to take care of others, however, she had to learn the tools to take care of herself. And even more importantly, give herself the opportunity to do that. It took a series of traumatic incidents to push her to the point where she had no choice. If she wanted to continue to live, she had to make some changes. Tricia’s story is a remarkable one of resilience and courage.  And thanks to our friends at The Overwatch Collective, you all get to hear it! The Overwatch Collective was co-founded by their President, Greg Grogan, who is an active first responder and former U.S. Marine. He’s currently in the U.S. Coast Guard and serving as a police officer.  The Overwatch Collective  podcast, hosted by Greg Grogan, has aired for 6 seasons and 112 episodes, They feature guests from the first responder and veteran community with the ultimate goal of sharing traumatic stories and providing resources in order to normalize mental health amongst the first responder community. In addition,the podcast provides resources for those in a dark place and all guests are available to be contacted if needed. HEALTH CRISIS ADJACENT… ? The son of a mother with bipolar disorder and a father with mental health issues of his own, Kevin Mayard had an unconventional childhood, to say the least. Fortunately, his resilience and creativity have served him well. Not only did he develop coping skills to adjust to his parents ever changing moods and the uncertainty that came along with that, he also came up with solutions to manage his own anxiety. While at times heartbreaking, his story is also an entertaining and educational one, and we know you’ll agree. Despite having lost 6 family members to HCM and running a grass roots nonprofit, Heartfelt, that screens for sudden cardiac arrest,, Holly Morrell wasn’t prepared for the journey she had to embark on after her own conclusive diagnosis for the disease. In our premiere episode, we talk to Jessica Hughes who was in the midst of a health crisis but her doctor repeatedly dismissed her. And told her she needed to lose weight. It wasn't until her niece, Lindsey told her she needed to advocate for herself that she did... and discovered that was a good thing because she had adrenal tumors. Without that push from Lindsey, who knows where Jessica would be... we're glad it's here with us where she can share her story and help other people in the same circumstance take the initiative and advocate for themselves.
