The Apostles' Creed: a declaration of faith confessed by Christians for centuries on centuries. The creed provides a beautifully succinct and powerful summation of the teaching of Jesus and His Apostles. It preserves a record of what some of the earliest Christians believed and deemed most central to their faith. What is the history behind the Apostles' Creed? Where did it come from, and why does it matter now? Resources: Creeds of the Churches, by John H. Kelly A History of Christianity, Vol. 1, by Kenneth Scott Latourette The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into hell, on the third day rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty, thence He will come to judge the living and the dead; I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
