EPISODE 69 Title: Why Radioactive Isotopes Surround Us: And What You Can Do To Protect Yourself Look ma! I’m glowing! It’s our worst nightmare. Radioactive clouds from some nearby damaged Nuclear plant singe our defenseless bodies, and we grow a third eye like those fish on The Simpsons. Don’t tell us this thought never crossed your mind. We know better. The real issue? We don’t need to live nearby for radiation from an event like Fukushima to affect us. As one Canadian high school student just figured out – the fallout has arrived! Don’t panic, though. You have options and ways to protect yourself from these gnarly toxins. Check out our podcast for insights on what to do and how to thrive in this crazy Nuclear age!

Treating Wounds With Low Level Electrical Therapy

EPISODE 71 Title: Treating Wounds With Low-Level Electrical Therapy: New Research People suffering from chronic non-healing wounds are usually recommended exercises by their doctor or physiotherapist to strengthen muscles and improve circulation, which are vital for a healthy recovery. A new study suggests that low-level electrostimulation therapy could also be used to treat such wounds, as this therapy has previously been shown to increase metabolic functioning in treated tissues through increased mitochondrial activity in skeletal muscle tissue (in mice). The studies listed below describe some of the research related to electrostimulation therapies and wound healing that is available currently.  Jump into this interesting research with us on the podcast!

episode Mammogram? No Thanks! artwork

Mammogram? No Thanks!

EPISODE 70 Title: Mammogram? No Thanks! At Least, the Swiss Think So. The Swiss Medical Board is stirring things up. We know – they’re supposed to be neutral, right down the middle. They take a neutral approach. Not, however, when the subject is mammograms. In an issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, the Swiss step squarely into the “no” category when it comes to the use of mammograms. Their concern roots itself in the review of the literature and studies surrounding the procedure. There seems to be a gap in the perception and reality of the effectiveness of mammograms. So much so that they felt compelled to strongly recommend that women stop getting mammograms. Immediately. Right now. Pronto. The interesting part? The reaction of the larger medical community. The two concerns: 1) It goes against what we thought we knew. 2) Women are going to be upset with the news. This is the pushback? Listen to our podcast for some insight in the matter.
