Descripción

In Edward Yang’s Yi Yi, loneliness, family duty, regret, and the limits of understanding one another drift through the unraveling — and quiet reconnection — of a middle-class Taipei family. Sometimes people can see the same life from different angles and still both be right. That does not always mean someone has to be wrong. Listen in as Larkin and Courtney discuss Yi Yi, share their own thoughts, and uncover possible discoveries along the way. #Yi Yi #Edward Yang #Taiwanese #cinema #Taipei #OMFG #OriginalMontanaFilmGuide

Sweetgrass (the documentary) and some Backroom Action

As I sit here writing this, consuming all the Tootsie Rolls from the office break room and considering my options if confronted—probably a lie of some sort—I’m also meditating on the Montana-filmed Sweetgrass, a quiet yet meditative ride near Red Lodge, Montana. Think Brokeback Mountain without the passionate lovemaking. This life of herding sheep in this particular area is coming to an end, and we follow it. What a breath of fresh air to get a non-reductive narrative about the hardships of cowboying. Also, we touch on the 2026 movie Backrooms. Both are great. I suggest watching them back to back. #OMFG #OriginalMontanaFilmGuide #MontanaFilm #Sweetgrass #Backrooms #MontanaMovies #FilmPodcast #MoviePodcast #DocumentaryFilm #RedLodgeMontana #WeirdMovies #CowboyCinema

Invasion USA with a Reverse Rocket in the Tailpipe

On this OMFG Quickie, Larkin and Josh subject themselves to Invasion U.S.A., a strange Cold War fever dream about what grown men in America apparently wanted to become: karate experts with zero conversational skills, corny one-liners, and weapons that do impossible shit like hit targets without aiming and never run out of bullets. Faceless casual bad guys meet their fates in an insane festival of explosions, bullets, and macho nonsense as we give our final farewell to one of cinema’s great non-charismatic heroes. Invasion U.S.A. is a hoot, and our discussion is worth the ride. #InvasionUSA #ChuckNorris #CannonFilms #80sAction #ColdWarCinema #ActionMovies #CultMovies #BadMovies #VHSAction #MoviePodcast #MontanaPodcast #OriginalMontanaFilmGuide #OMFG

Lefty Brown and the Ballad of Dawson's Creek

Excelsior, my fellow OMF'ers! In this episode of Original Montana Film Guide, we uncover one of Montana's cinematic gems—or maybe it's more of a crystal. Actually, let's call it a river rock: The Ballad of Lefty Brown. Do we talk about the movie? Absolutely. Do we wander into a few other topics along the way? You betcha. Join us as we explore the story of the ultimate sidekick, a man forced into the spotlight despite every instinct telling him he'd rather stay in the background. We dig into reluctant heroes, friendship, loyalty, aging in the West, and what happens when ordinary people are asked to do extraordinary things. #MontanaMovies #OriginalMontanaFilmGuide #OMFGPodcast #TheBalladOfLeftyBrown #BillPullman #MontanaFilm #WesternMovies #IndieFilm #MoviePodcast #FilmDiscussion #Montana #Cinema #MovieReview #PodcastLife #WesternFilm #ReluctantHero #SidekickStory #TreasureState #FilmFans #MovieLovers

Grave of the Fireflies and the Infinite Sadness

Is it possible to make a convincing live-action film about children orphaned during the Pacific War, wandering through a devastated landscape? Probably not. That's where Grave of the Fireflies succeeds. Rather than chasing realism through live action, Studio Ghibli delivers one of the most heartbreaking and unforgettable war films ever made through animation. Larkin and Courtney join Josh to discuss the film's emotional power, its portrayal of survival, loss, and childhood, and why this animated masterpiece remains as devastating today as when it was released. It's an OMFG Quickie you'll never forget.
