Kim Aman is South Dakota's 2026 Elementary School Principal of the Year. Kim is the proud principal of Simmons Elementary School. Simmons Elementary School has improved support systems for students, especially those with behavioral and social-emotional needs, while creating a positive, inclusive environment based on a “Kids First” philosophy. Kim has been in education for about 34 years. She started out as a preschool teacher then finished her degree and have taught mostly lower elementary with 25 years in kindergarten. Kim is going on her fourteenth year as an elementary school principal. David Zatta is the principal South Plainfield Preschool in New Jersey.  He makes sure his Tiny Tigers identity as part of everything they do. Through their words, visuals, celebrations, and family involvement, they help thier youngest students and their families feel like they belong. He is proud of their hands-on, theme-based curriculum and the strong connections we have built with parents through real-world connection events. They invite families to join their school-wide events, share their skills, and help shape their themes. This shows children that their families are important partners in learning. He focuses on equity by making sure all students have real-world, first-hand experiences and by removing barriers to help everyone access the curriculum. These efforts have built trust, increased engagement, and created a lively school community where learning goes beyond the classroom. Davis was also honored to be recognized for instructional leadership in a Tools of the Mind article and as a presenter at the Tools of the Mind–TEACH national conference. David Zatta shares their process of creating meaningful preschool pathway opportunities for his Tiny Tigers school community. Jeff Linden is a dedicated school administrator, former teacher, coach, and military veteran committed to fostering a culture of excellence in public education. Currently serving as the Principal of Hastings High School in Hastings Public Schools, Jeff is a dynamic leader focused on empowering teachers, staff, and students, supporting educators, and building strong school communities. Educational Journey & Leadership Experience Jeff’s path in education has been defined by a deep commitment to student achievement and teacher development. He holds an Educational Specialist degree in K-12 Organizational Leadership, along with Master’s degrees in Curriculum & Instruction and Educational Administration, all from Grand Canyon University. His academic foundation began at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with endorsements in Mathematics (7-12) and Physical Education (7-12). As a 9-12 Principal at Hastings High School, Jeff leads a school dedicated to academic success, student engagement, and positive school culture. Before this role, he served as the 7-12 Principal at Southern Valley Public Schools, where he focused on curriculum development, student-centered initiatives, and staff collaboration. His previous experience as a math teacher and coach at multiple school districts, including Ralston, Millard, Hershey, and Twin River, has provided him with a well-rounded perspective on student learning and athletic leadership. A Legacy of Service & Leadership Beyond the classroom, Jeff has played an active role in curriculum development, assessment writing, and teacher evaluation committees. His leadership extends into athletics, where he has served as a head football and wrestling coach, assisted the athletic director, and event supervisor for state and district-level competitions. His ability to lead both in academics and extracurricular activities speaks to his commitment to holistic student development. Before his career in education, Jeff proudly served as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Army Reserves during Operation Enduring Freedom and the Iraq War. His military background instilled in him the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance principles he carries into his leadership in education.
