Charles Boles, better known as Black Bart, was a stagecoach robber who operated on the West Coast in the 1870s and '80s. He pulled off 20+ robberies despite being scared of horses and never firing a shot. He wrote poems to taunt investigators and was pursued by two of the finest detectives in the Wild West, James Hume and Harry Morse.
