QUT Together in Early Childhood Education and Care Podcast
Presented by QUT School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education and Teachers Mutual Bank, the 2023 Jean Ferguson Discussion Panel explores the topic: ‘Working Together for a Sustainable Future’. Sustainability is a critical topic in education for all ages, and we see a broadened focus on sustainability in the Australian Curriculum and updated Approved Learning Framework (i.e., Early Years Learning Framework and My Time Our Place: Framework for School Age Care) which include a new Sustainability principle. Through shared real-world examples, case studies and best practices, our multi-disciplinary panel of educators, researchers, and other professionals discuss the most up to date thinking on sustainability in Early Childhood Education and what this looks like in teaching practice. The panel discussion highlights several key observations and takeaways: 1. The Influence of Childhood and Early Experiences 2. The Pivotal Role of Educators 3. Working with Children as Active Citizens and Agents of Change 4. Collaborative Partnerships with Families 5. Healthy Children need a Healthy Planet 6. The Beginning of a Movement towards a Sustainable Future This episode encourages us to reflect on our roles, contributions, and interactions within the early childhood education and care movement. It inspires us to think critically and creatively about our ongoing role, as educators, in shaping the future of early childhood education and care.
