RESILIENT NOW PODCAST
In this powerful episode of the Resilient Now Podcast, Liliana Brown sits down with Tamie Gangloff, MA, MFT — author of Chronic Illness and Eating Disorders: Assessment, Clinical Skills, and Lived Experiences, keynote speaker, and therapist specializing in chronic illness and eating disorders. Tamie believes resilience begins with one simple but profound truth: Be here. Right here. Right now. Her journey is layered, courageous, and deeply human. As a child, Tamie wore a back brace for scoliosis. In college, depression led her into an eating disorder and struggles with alcoholism. Today, she celebrates over 20 years of sobriety — and long-term recovery from disordered eating. At 38, she became an athlete, only to later face major spine surgery and a long, painful recovery. That surgery changed more than her body — it changed her life. It helped her leave an unhealthy relationship, taught her to become a team with her doctors, and eventually brought her back to therapy after developing PTSD from medical trauma. Tamie speaks openly about living in the “in-between space” — still facing medical challenges, still healing, still growing. One of her most powerful tools? Naming her illness. She calls it “Rocky.” By separating herself from her illness, she found strength and compassion. Some days Rocky gives her a hard time — and she gives herself permission to feel anger, even setting a timer for it — then intentionally shifts toward gratitude, light, and what she can do. In her book, Chronic Illness and Eating Disorders: Assessment, Clinical Skills, and Lived Experiences, Tamie combines professional expertise with lived experience. The book includes practical therapeutic exercises you can do with a therapist or on your own — including powerful activities that help distinguish anger toward illness from anger toward yourself. Tamie’s message is simple but profound: “I see you. I hear you.” If you or someone you love is navigating chronic illness, eating disorder recovery, sobriety, medical trauma, or life’s unexpected detours — this episode will resonate deeply. Resilience isn’t about perfection. It’s about staying present in the middle of the storm. 🎧 Listen now on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your favorite podcast platform. 🔔 Subscribe, follow, rate, and share to help us reach more people who need hope. 💛 Be Resilient Now.
