Rick finally corners Rick Prime, the version of himself who murdered his wife Diane and the man he's chased across every dimension. The hunt sends him "fracking the Central Finite Curve" — teleporting infinite Ricks into kill-tubes — until the noise drags a retired, irritated Evil Morty into the fray and springs a trap that drops all three into a prison-box for Ricks who got too close. They escape a recorded battle-royale lie and a "Diane" that turns out to be a bomb, then track the real Prime to his lair, where he murders Slow Mobius (revealed as Rick's uncle) before Evil Morty disables him with a simple shirt-swap. Rick beats Prime to death, feels nothing, and walks home hollow while Evil Morty strolls off with the weapon plans. The episode lands the series' biggest emotional payoff and then deliberately empties it: the revenge that defined Rick's identity leaves him with the same thousand-yard stare Morty wore at the end of "Rick Potion No. 9." When alien squid assassins begin picking them off, it triggers an "Asimov Cascade": every decoy realizes what it is, discovers it has been quietly building decoys of its own, and starts hunting all the others. What follows is a nationwide chain reaction of fake Smiths killing fake Smiths — Italian vacationers, scarecrow Ricks harvesting skin, wooden Glockenspiel sermonizers, squid-suited looters, and a self-varnishing Jerry — escalating until a Star-Fox-styled beacon lures the survivors into a final battle royale. The throwaway target-suit man from the cold open walks in and finishes the last family standing. The real Smiths, meanwhile, spend the whole story off in space with Space Beth, having never heard the word "decoy." The episode turns its own premise into a thesis on Rick: protecting his family and playing god are the same impulse, since every Rick in the cascade is both creator and the deity the cold-open Rick set out to kill. It rewards attention to how the show narrates itself — characters openly mock B-stories, the beacon taunt reads the audience's own doubts back at them, and the cruelest gag (Jerry's cowardice is the one constant across every branch) doubles as character study. By the end you understand why "Mortyplicity" is built on ontological vertigo: nobody you follow is who they think they are, and the show treats that crisis as something best resolved with a fart joke.

Rick and Morty S04E08 — The Vat of Acid Episode

Rick and Morty escape a back-alley alien deal by jumping into a vat of fake acid, but Morty's refusal to call the trick a real invention sets off a month-long campaign of petty revenge. Rick fakes a 3 a.m. apology, hands over a "save-point" device, and lets Morty rewind embarrassments, a Jessica do-over, and an entire indie-movie romance complete with plane crash and frostbite — until Jerry mistakes the remote for the TV remote and wipes it. Then comes the gut-punch: it was never time travel, every reset killed an alternate Morty, this isn't even Morty's Rick, and a merged-dimension mob led by Justice Sotomayor arrives at the garage demanding Morty publicly kiss the vat. The episode is a master class in scope mismatch — a grade-school dignity fight escalated into a Prestige-style multiverse murder spree, then revealed to have happened in a stunt dimension Rick spun up just to nurse his grudge. Underneath the prank sits a real Morty arc inside the coffee-shop romance, where he chooses not to reset and earns the relationship before Jerry erases it, which is the show quietly asking whether consequences make a person or whether a clever enough grandfather can void them. The acid-proof cop dying on Johnny Carson is the closing thesis: everyone in this universe overestimates their own immunity, and the bill always comes.
