Rise of Albion: The Epic Birth of England
After World War II, rising incomes, government-backed home loans, new highways, and mass-produced housing allowed millions of American families to leave crowded cities for newly built suburbs. Homeownership, automobiles, modern appliances, and stable employment became symbols of the growing middle-class lifestyle. Suburban growth created comfort, opportunity, and a powerful version of the American Dream, but access was unequal, as discriminatory housing policies often excluded Black families and other minorities. The suburban era transformed American communities, consumer culture, family life, transportation, and the physical shape of the nation.
