A Discussion with Seaside’s Governing Body

For the fifth episode of season two, we focus not only city governance - by sitting down with our mayor and one of our six city councilors, but all of the new changes the city has experienced over the past year.  We are first joined by Seth Morrisey, City Councilor representing Ward's 3 and 4 for the City of Seaside. As a lifelong resident of Seaside and Oregon's North Coast region, Councilor Morrisey talks about the dynamics of a city council, explains to us the importance of having "wards," his and the council's current goals, and what he hopes to see for the future.    Our second guest is Seaside's new mayor, Steve Wright, elected in November 2022. Mayor Wright, Seaside's 34th mayor since being incorporated in 1899, has been a resident of Seaside for many years, and involved in city government for a large portion of those. Steve talks about what he's seen in the past, along with what he hopes to implement during his time as mayor.

Small Business, Hiring and Marquee Events

Given that March celebrates both Women's History Month and National Women's Small Business Month it seems fitting that we were able to speak with, and feature, two key women serving Seaside's business community for the fourth episode of season two.  We are first joined by Jessica Newhall, Associate Director of Clatsop Community College's Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Jessica discusses the free services and support they offer for small businesses, some of the trends she's seeing in the small biz arena, the growth they've experienced as a center, and how they help make sure businesses don't lose sight of the core fundamentals needed to be successful. Our second guest is Katie McCloud, CEO of the Seaside Chamber of Commerce. Katie discusses what the Seaside Chamber does, its mission, and some of the Chamber's marquee events - including her passion for a Women in Business event she spearheaded in 2022. Coincidentally, the second annual series of this event launched earlier this week and you can learn more about the event here: https://www.seasidechamber.com/women-in-business/ [https://www.seasidechamber.com/women-in-business/].
