SENDAGENDA - News (18.07.2025) - Season 1, Episode 2 Save Our Children's Rights - What's at Risk, Why It Matters and How You Can Take Action - Interview with Rachel Filmer Watch the latest episode of #SENDAGENDA - News here: https://youtu.be/nbzUiDrFL48 [https://youtu.be/nbzUiDrFL48] Summary Ben Palmer and Rachel Filmer discuss the Save Our Children's Rights (SOCR) campaign, focusing on the importance of maintaining legal rights for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Rachel shared her personal experience with her twin autistic sons and the challenges faced in obtaining legal support. Ben discusses the opportunities that can be achieved when Local Areas commit to supporting children and young people’s aspirations in life. Rachel outlines three key ways people can support the campaign: 1) signing the parliamentary petition; 2) writing to their local MP using a template letter from IPSEA; and 3) participating in the photo campaign by sharing positive stories about how legal rights have made a difference for them. About Save Our Children’s Rights (SOCR) - Protect the Law for Children & Young People with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities - #SaveOurChildrensRights Current laws, mainly in the Children and Families Act 2014 and associated regulations, enable children and young people with SEND to access things that others take for granted, or don't need. There are worrying indications that the government plans to weaken or remove these rights in order to save money. This could leave some children and young people with no legally enforceable right to an accessible education that meets their needs. At SOCR, we demand that any such plans be halted, and all education reforms work in the interests of children and families, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
