Sharing the Mic: Young Carers & Change Makers in Conversation
What’s gained when young carers are at the heart of research about their lives? Here, Becca Lacey explains how her research included young carers from the start, to ensure she and her team were asking the best possible questions of their data. We listen to Sharan, young carer and trainee barrister, in conversation with the Carers Trust’s Holly Swinckels on what it was like to take part in Becca’s research. Also: why, with young carers often hidden in plain sight, identification is crucial as a first step to finding community and support. Plus: how being a young carer shapes one’s life way beyond childhood, and how, as Sharan says, being a young carer may be “part of who you are, but it doesn’t have to limit who you can become”. If you are a young carer seeking support or want to know how to support the young carers in your life head over to the Carers Trust website at carers.org [https://carers.org/] or follow them on Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/carerstrust/], X [https://x.com/CarersTrust] and Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/carers.trust/].
