Shifting the Culture
After a summertime hiatus, the crew returns for another episode of the Shifting the Culture Podcast. Picking up where we left off, we jump right into the latest releases over the past month such as Common and Pete Rock's The Auditorium Vol. 1, Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady, and Vultures 2 by Kanye West and Ty Dolla$ign. Next, we discuss the impact of Lauryn Hill's reputation which caused low ticket sales ultimately leading to the cancellation of her and the Fugee's reunion tour in the U.S. Moving on we get into whether or not Hip Hip needs an Adult Contemporary Category. Finally, we touch on Drake's 100 gigs of behind-the-scenes footage and unreleased material. We also speak on Jon B's comments on his classic "They Don't Know" being sampled without his blessing. For the anniversary portion of the show, we recall the debut of Yo MTV Raps and NWA's iconic album, Straight Outta Compton. We also get into Scarface's The Fix and Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaboration album, Watch the Throne. 0:30 Intro3:30 Common/ Pete Rock's The Auditorium Review 4:53 Vultures 2 Review 10:08 The Death Of Slim Shady Review 14:26 Olympics 2024 Rundown 17:48 The Lox Tiny Desk Review 19:49 The Fugees Cancel U.S. Tour 26:49 Konscious Kurt's Lauryn Hill Diss 30:51 9th Wonder & Q Tip Debate Adult Contemporary Category 35:45 Drake Releases 100 GB Of Unreleased Footage 43:55 Jon B Unhappy With Gunna's "They Don't Know" Sample 48:28 Anniversary Of Yo MTV Raps Premiere 51:22 Anniversary Of NWA's Straight Outta Compton 56:53 Anniversary Of Scarface's The Fix 1:00:56 Anniversary Of Watch The Throne 1:10:07 Outro Subscribe on YouTube →FOLLOW ON SOCIAL MEDIA← Instagram: instagram.com/shiftingtheculturepodcast/ Facebook: facebook.com/shiftingtheculturepodcast TikTok: tiktok.com/@shiftingtheculture →LISTEN TO US ON THE GO← Apple Spotify Soundcloud Spreaker
