The Three Weeks pt. 1: Learning to Long Again

It is so easy to survive the darkness by adopting a radical optimism that ignores my own brokenness, or to become consumed by tears of anger when I face the pain of this world. Yet, the profound invitation of this season is to learn how to sit with the raw, undefined ache inside me and transform it into tears of longing. When I close my eyes in the midst of my personal pain and shut out the immediate distractions, I am able to focus on a vision of wholeness that feels impossibly far away. To be counted is to be reminded that my unique name profoundly matters, and that I am completely surrounded by Hashem's love. Chukat: The Primordial Mother of Return

The most profound healing begins with the realization that the remedy was prepared before the wound even existed. Just as a mother lovingly descends into the mess of her child to bring cleanliness and order, the mystery of the Parah Adumah reveals a Divine love that is willing to meet me in the "dirt" of my own mistakes.
