Descripción

Have you ever felt like you're swimming in frigid, churning waters, emotionally exhausted, and tempted to give up just a half-mile from the shore? When the thick fog of life rolls in spiritually, it becomes incredibly easy to lose our focus and forget where we are headed. But even when the horizon is hidden from our eyes, God’s story provides a secure anchor of hope that can carry us through our darkest storms.  In this episode, we dive into Romans chapter 8—a text filled with the richest blessings of encouragement found in Scripture. Life can be challenging, and the suffering we experience in this present world is very real. Yet, as a Christ-centered, Spirit-filled family, we can live with unwavering confidence because of three profound truths: we know who we are, we know what is coming, and we know exactly how deeply we are loved.  The Holy Spirit actively testifies to our real identity, reminding us that we are no longer trapped as slaves to fear, but have been beautifully adopted as full heirs into the family of God. This isn't a mere surface-level faith; it is an everyday reality where we can intimately cry out, "Abba, Father". Join us as we discover how to encounter the abundant life Jesus offers and find the strength to keep pushing forward, knowing our present groaning cannot compare to the ultimate glory waiting ahead.  Key Takeaways * A Firm Sense of Identity: Through the spirit of adoption, your legal and spiritual status has completely changed—you are a child of God, not a slave to fear.  * The Power of "Abba": We are invited into an intimate, relational connection with God, allowing us to cry out to Him as a child runs to their "Daddy".  * Realism in Suffering: Following Jesus does not mean an absence of pain, but a promise that our present struggles are setting the stage for a glory that outweighs them all.  * The Shoreline of Hope: Even when you cannot physically see the outcome, anchoring your trust in God's promises gives you the endurance to navigate the fog of life.  Scripture Referenced * Romans 8:14–24   Connect with Us * Website: https://www.swfamily.org/ [https://www.swfamily.org/]   * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestChurch/ [https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestChurch/]   * Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/swfamily1/ [https://www.instagram.com/swfamily1/]   * Give: https://secure.accessacs.com/access/oglogin.aspx?sn=97196 [https://secure.accessacs.com/access/oglogin.aspx?sn=97196]   Subscribe to the Southwest Church Sermons Podcast: * Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3llJdN00ENe7juCNz3B0c1 [https://open.spotify.com/show/3llJdN00ENe7juCNz3B0c1]   * Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/southwest-church-sermons/id1823744714 [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/southwest-church-sermons/id1823744714]

episode Restored | A Vision of Restoration artwork

Restored | A Vision of Restoration

We all want a good life, but what does it look like when the reality around us feels completely broken? Whether we look at our own lives, our communities, or the world at large, it is easy to become numb to the rubble. But God’s story is big enough to handle those challenges, and He is constantly weaving a grand narrative of restoration. In this episode, we kick off our summer series walking through the Old Testament book of Nehemiah. We begin by exploring how a vision of restoration starts not with a grand strategic plan, but with a broken heart and a disciplined response. Looking closely at Nehemiah’s life in the Persian palace of Susa, we discover a powerful blueprint for how God shifts our focus from what is to what could be and should be when His kingdom breaks through. True kingdom restoration requires us to move beyond surface-level faith and step into a posture of complete dependence on God. As we read this Old Testament narrative alongside Jesus’s New Testament call to pray, "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven," let’s lean in together as a family doing our best to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the world around us. Expect a message that steps on your toes in all the right ways and challenges you to become beautifully restless for God's promises. Key Takeaways * The Power of Context: To truly understand what God is doing at any point in our lives, we must understand the larger narrative of Scripture. God is always in full control, and He never places the entire weight of restoration on a single person; He simply calls us to be faithful to our specific moment in His story. * Breaking for What Breaks God's Heart: Nehemiah lived in total luxury and prominence as the king’s cup-bearer, yet his heart completely broke for suffering people 700 miles away. True discipleship means looking past our own comfort to weep over the injustices and brokenness that grieve the heart of God. * Turning Emotion Into Discipline: When hit with devastating news, Nehemiah didn't just crumble; his sorrow took a disciplined direction through fasting and prayer. Dedicating our minds and bodies through fasting shifts our desperation into a powerful focus on the only One who can truly intervene. * Praying the Word: Nehemiah's powerful prayer of confession and petition was spoken verbatim from the book of Deuteronomy. When we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, it aligns our desires with His and fuels a longing to see His promises made reality. Scripture Referenced * Nehemiah 1:1-11 * Matthew 6:10 (The Lord's Prayer) * Deuteronomy (The Promises of Scattering and Gathering) Connect with Southwest Church: * Website: https://www.swfamily.org/ [https://www.swfamily.org/] * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestChurch/ [https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestChurch/] * Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/swfamily1/ [https://www.instagram.com/swfamily1/] * Give: https://secure.accessacs.com/access/oglogin.aspx?sn=97196 [https://secure.accessacs.com/access/oglogin.aspx?sn=97196] Subscribe to Southwest Church Sermons: * Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3llJdN00ENe7juCNz3B0c1 [https://open.spotify.com/show/3llJdN00ENe7juCNz3B0c1] * Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/southwest-church-sermons/id1823744714 [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/southwest-church-sermons/id1823744714]

Made for More | Life in the Holy Spirit

Ever look at your faith and wonder, "Is this all there really is?" If you have ever felt like your spiritual walk is a bit stagnant or lifeless, you are not alone. But what if the abundant life Jesus promised is already available to you, waiting to be unleashed through the power of the Holy Spirit?   In this episode, we continue our Made for More series by diving deep into what it truly means to experience an abundant, Spirit-filled life. For many of us, the Holy Spirit can feel like a complicated concept, a historical topic from scripture, or a power relegated entirely to the past. We trace the fascinating—and sometimes challenging—history of how our own church traditions shaped our view of the Spirit, moving from a "word-only" theology to reclaiming the active, life-changing power that operates directly on the human heart.  Life can be challenging, but God's story reveals that you haven't been left to navigate it in your own strength. Pulling from Romans 8 and Jesus’ final words to His disciples in John’s Gospel, we see that the Holy Spirit isn't just a metaphor for God’s presence—He is the literal, indwelling power of God given to guide, teach, and transform us daily. Like wearing sunglasses on the back of your hat while shielding your eyes from the sun, what you need for a deep faith is something you already possess. It's time to step out of a stagnant routine and discover where real faith meets real life.  Key Takeaways: * Moving Beyond the Surface: Following Jesus is meant to be far more than a one-to-two-day-a-week church routine; it is an everyday experience of the abundant life He promised.  * The Gift of the Advocate: The Holy Spirit is our Advocate, a gift from the Father sent to teach us truth, testify about Jesus, and live within us forever.  * Flesh vs. Spirit: Living a life governed by the flesh leads to death and a hostile posture toward God, while a mind governed by the Spirit brings true life and peace.  * You Already Have It: As believers, we aren't waiting around for the power of God to drop from heaven; the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is already living in us, ready to move and change us.  Scripture Referenced: * John 10:10   * Romans 8:5–13   * John 14:15–17, 26   * John 15:26   * John 16:7, 13–15   * Acts 1:8   Connect with Southwest Church: * Website: https://www.swfamily.org/ [https://www.swfamily.org/]   * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestChurch/ [https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestChurch/]   * Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/swfamily1/ [https://www.instagram.com/swfamily1/]   * Give: https://secure.accessacs.com/access/oglogin.aspx?sn=97196 [https://secure.accessacs.com/access/oglogin.aspx?sn=97196]   Listen to the Southwest Church Sermons Podcast: * Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3llJdN00ENe7juCNz3B0c1 [https://open.spotify.com/show/3llJdN00ENe7juCNz3B0c1]   * Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/southwest-church-sermons/id1823744714 [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/southwest-church-sermons/id1823744714]

episode Made For More | Worry artwork

Made For More | Worry

Why is it so hard to just stop worrying? We have all been there. You wake up at 2:00 AM, and your mind is already off to the races, spinning through every worst-case scenario about your job, your kids, or your health. This week, we dig into the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus tackles our anxiety head-on. He invites us out of that exhausting cycle and points us toward a life built on real, steady peace. What You’ll Learn In This Episode: * The anatomy of a divided mind: What the ancient biblical word for worry tells us about our current mental exhaustion. * Lessons from the birds and wildflowers: How a quick look at creation resets our perspective on God’s daily care. * Turning "what-ifs" into "God-wills": A practical shift to move your focus off your own strength and back onto His kingdom. * The "CALM" framework: A simple, four-step daily practice to trade your panic for lasting peace. We like to think we can handle everything on our own, but constant worry is a heavy weight that steals the abundant life Jesus wants for us. This week, let’s practice trading that pride for humble dependence. When a new anxiety pops up, don’t sit in it alone. Bring it to the Lord, ask our church family for prayer, and remind yourself that the God who has been good before will be good again tomorrow.

episode Made For More | Than Our Past artwork

Made For More | Than Our Past

Ever feel like your past disqualifies you from the good things God has for your future? It’s easy to look at our old mistakes, or even our current struggles, and convince ourselves that the abundant life Jesus promises is meant for someone else. But God's story tells a completely different truth.  Key Takeaways * Drop the Perfect Charade: Every single one of us has a past shaped by mistakes and sin. Real community starts when we stop pretending we have it all together and embrace honesty with one another.  * Silence the Accuser's Voice: The enemy loves to use our past to whisper, "This isn't for you." Recognize that shame and guilt are deceptions designed to keep you from stepping into your true purpose.  * Live in the Present Tense of Grace: You were dead in your mistakes, but because of God’s great love and rich mercy, you are made alive, loved, and saved by grace right now. Your old identity is past tense.  * Receive the Free Gift: You can't earn your way out of your past, and you don't have to. Salvation and healing are free gifts from a Father who simply wants you to belong to His family.  Life can be incredibly challenging, and carrying the hidden weight of yesterday's choices only makes the road heavier. But our church family is a place where you can come exactly as you are—smudges, messy hair, imperfections, and all. This week, when the middle-of-the-night doubts try to tell you that you don't belong, remind yourself that you are a son or daughter of King Jesus. Let’s stop looking at the closed doors of our past and start experiencing the full, abundant life God is offering us together today.
