Theresia's lessons from neuro sciences and from Hogwarts Last week, I took my niece to "Hogwarts" near London. Seeing her grow up, remembering also my clients in their efforts to become who they choose to be, it struck me, how the tale of Harry Potter reflects what neuro sciences also know: Our decisions are key to who we become. In the end, we are not just products of circumstances. We have an active part, making choices. If you want to read more about how our activities shape our brains and minds, take a look at the book "Altered Traits" by Daniel Goleman and Richard Davidson (2017), a review of studies and meta studies regarding the effects of mindfulness practice on the mind and brain.

Choose to be yourself part 2

Theresia's lessons from neuro-sciences and from Hogwarts Follow some mindfulness meditation in order to create the needed “space” between stimulus and reaction, in which to actually choose your response: • Bodyscan seated (my own video): [https://youtu.be/gf8KD1fMUpI] • Mindfulness meditation by Jon Kabat-Zinn [https://youtu.be/LYYrr1VGNRo] who invented MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction). Participants of MBSR haven been the subjects of many of the quoted studies about mindfulness changing the brain. And also about mindfulness changing the character. This link here seems open for sharing. If not, I apologize. Literature Davidson/ Goleman; Altered Traits, the book where you find a survey of all important studies in neuroscience to determine if and how the mind – or mindfulness – can change the brain and even seemingly stable character traits. // D. Siegel; Pocket Guide to Interpersonal Neurobiology. Dig deep: What do different sciences have to say about the mind and its relationship to the brain or to influencing social factors? What can neuroscience show? // J.K. Rowling; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the examples from the tale
