The Thing You Keep Dismissing Because It Seems Too Simple

There's an idea I've been sitting on for a long time, and I kept dismissing it, because you're really not supposed to be able to do this. You're not supposed to say you can build a business around something that feels completely playful, something you thoroughly enjoy, something that, if somebody else had the guts to build it first, you'd say yes to before they finished the pitch. The Thing You Can't Say From Stage

In May of 2023, a month after my mom passed, I stood on a friend's stage and said something out loud that you're not supposed to say. I want to spend as much time as I possibly can on a golf course, and as much time as I can with my wife. I had no idea what I was setting in motion. A year later I retired from 38 seasons of basketball coaching. A year after that, I was handed the golf program at my alma mater. From August through October 3rd, there wasn't a day I wasn't on a course. Life just kind of filled in the details. The Night SPARK Died

About 10 days ago, lightning struck close enough to my house to do real damage. Fried a printer, killed a sofa, knocked out two DirecTV receivers, and took out the internet. It happened while I was in the middle of removing SPARK from everything I do. In this episode I talk about what I found when I went back through a hundred coaching sessions, the four questions that showed up in almost every one of them, and what happened when I stopped hiding behind frameworks, acronyms, and credentials I'd been stacking for years.
