The Healthy Movement Self Test is the at-home assessment most adults need before they ever need a doctor. Ep #236: Why Menopause Quietly Sets Up a Shoulder Tear Before You Feel It

Menopause shoulder pain is the warning signal most women miss until they are scheduled for surgery. In this episode, I walk through a real case from my studio. A 53-year-old woman in menopause came in with a Mobility Health Score of 85. Within 30 days, her score rose to 33, and her Movement Age moved from 85 to 81. She was getting better in measurable ways. Then she lifted a suitcase on a work trip. Now she is scheduled for rotator cuff surgery. This episode answers the question that the case raises. How can someone be getting better and tearing at the same time? The answer is the Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause. Estrogen withdrawal hits every joint capsule, muscle, tendon, ligament, and bone at the same time. Research shows women with estrogen deficiency have 48 percent higher odds of rotator cuff repair. Frozen shoulder rates are also higher in women not on hormone therapy. The Silent Shutdown Cycle runs faster and louder in a menopausal body, and pain is the last signal, not the first. I walk through the case. I explain the deconditioning cascade. I show why symptom-directed care misses the shoulder until it tears. And I lay out what frequency of work the research supports for women in perimenopause and post menopause.
