Descripción

This is a bonus episode. No framework. No coaching breakdown. Just a race weekend story. It's been 10 years since my first Flying Pig event in Cincinnati. To mark it, I signed up for the 3-Way with Extra Cheese. It's the 1-mile Friday night, the 5k and 10k Saturday morning, back-to-back. Finally, the ½ on Sunday morning. I came home without the half marathon finish I planned, and I'm completely at peace with that. In this episode I walk through the whole weekend and all the adventures. The wrong convention center, the lost phone, a stranger who who became my inspiration when I had nothing left, and the decision Sunday morning to protect my body over my ego. Sometimes the most coaching thing you can do is stop. This episode is about that. You deserve to do this with support

Community is my word of the year for 2026, and this episode is why. I share the story of how I found my local running group, ORRRC, before I ever ran my first race, and what it felt like to meet a group of strangers who welcomed me like I belonged. Because I did; and so do you. If you've been going it alone, whether that's because of the stigma around mental health, the fear of being the slowest one, or just not knowing where to start, this episode is for you. I talk about why isolation makes everything harder, what real community actually looks like, and how to find your people no matter where you are. You don't have to share everything to belong somewhere. You just have to show up. Ep. 4: Make Your Training Plan Fit Your Life

In Episode 4 of Stronger Than The Struggle, Coach Gerald breaks down one of the biggest reasons beginner runners quit: trying to force their life to fit a training plan that was never designed for them in the first place. This episode is a reminder that you didn’t fail the plan, No, the plan failed you. Coach Gerald shares why cookie-cutter running plans often fall apart for people balancing work, family, faith, mental health struggles, and everyday responsibilities. You’ll learn how to build a running routine that works with your real life instead of against it, so you can stay consistent without burnout, guilt, or feeling like you’re “not a real runner.” If you’ve ever struggled to stay motivated, missed workouts and felt defeated, or wondered whether running is really for you — this episode is for you. Topics Covered: • Why most beginner training plans fail • The difference between making life fit running vs. making running fit life • How mental health impacts consistency • Why missed workouts do NOT make you a failure • Building sustainable rRunRevCoutines for real people with real lives Remember: If you run, you are a runner. #Running #MentalHealth #BeginnerRunner #Mindset #RunningMotivation #StrongerThanTheStruggle #RunRevCoaching WEB: RunRevCoaching [https://runrevcoaching.com] IG: @RunRevCoach_Gerald [https://www.instagram.com/runRevCoach_Gerald] FB: RunRevCoaching [https://www.facebook.com/runrevcoaching]

episode Episode 3: Running for Mental Health: Why It Works and How to Start artwork

Episode 3: Running for Mental Health: Why It Works and How to Start

Can running actually improve your mental health, even when motivation is the last thing you have? In this episode, Coach Gerald breaks down the real science behind why running works for stress, anxiety, and depression, and why the people who need it most are usually the ones who feel least equipped to start. Drawing from his own journey through one of the hardest seasons of his life, he makes the case for movement not as a fitness tool, but as a survival tool. You'll learn why motivation is a result of action, not a requirement for it, how running changes your brain chemistry in the same pathways targeted by antidepressants, and what a realistic, low-barrier starting point actually looks like for someone who is struggling right now. This episode also walks through the most common mistakes beginners make and how to avoid letting one hard week become a story about who you are. If you've been waiting until you feel ready, this episode is for you. You don't need to be fast. You don't need to be consistent. You just need to start. Why Most Running Plans Fail Real People (And What to Do Instead)

If you've ever started a running plan and quit after a few weeks, it probably wasn't a discipline problem. It was a design problem. Most plans are built for perfect conditions. They track your pace, your mileage, your performance. But they don't account for grief. They don't account for depression, stress, or the weight of real life showing up at the starting line. And that's exactly why so many people quit and blame themselves for it. In this episode, Coach Gerald breaks down why traditional running plans were never built for real people, and what a different approach actually looks like. Drawing from his own journey of finding purpose through running in one of the hardest seasons of his life, he walks through the five pillars that form the foundation of Run Rev Coaching: Faith, Mental Health, Community, Mindset, and Race Readiness. Each one is distinct. All five are connected. Together, they build the kind of athlete that finishes what they start. This episode is for you if you've started and stopped before. If you're carrying more than a training plan has ever made room for. If you want structure without pressure, and support without shame. You're not lazy. You're not broken. You're just carrying more than most fitness plans were built for.
