#48 - Full 80 | My current discouragement, and what helps me through times like these.

This week on Full 80 — an honest word about discouragement and what do with that. Someone stole from our home again. A child. And in the middle of dealing with that, I found myself carrying a grief and heartbreak that went much deeper than the stolen item. In this episode I share what I actually do when I am down — not what sounds spiritual, but what genuinely helps. Two things have been keeping me going: hiding myself in God through prayer and devotion, and spending time with children. There is something about the pure, innocent world of children that refreshes my spirit in a way nothing else does. Like Jesus said — if you want to receive the Kingdom of Heaven, you have to become like a child. My son also stepped in and handled a hard conversation with his friend in a way that stopped me in my tracks. If you are walking through a heavy season right now, this episode is for you. Someone broke into our house and stole from us while we were in Nairobi, and then lied about his innocence. This whole situation broke our hearts because it was a friend—a child, someone we have walked with for many years. This is actually not an uncommon experience for us, but it breaks us just the same every time. From a place of deep grief and not knowing what to say for days, I came across the story of Elisha and Gehazi, which helped me put words to the message I preached here. I try to unpack what precisely happens when someone lies, and how the wages of sin is death—how death uniquely unfolds from the specific sin of lying. After this sermon and ministry time, there were many beautiful testimonies of confession, repentance, and evil being supernaturally exposed. “Justice for Keziah” is a cry that has been heard loud and clear in Kilifi over the past weeks, and rightly so. There is a lot of children that falls victim to rape and murder in our beloved Kilifi. I belive there is a lot more we can do to protect our children. In this teaching, I address the recent tragedy with Keziah, and i teach into this situation on how we should respond to this type of evil, what we have to do, so that these tragedies doesn’t happen again.
