Descripción

The name Sweet Dirt comes from the story of my great-great-grandmother and her reflections on brokenness after being abandoned in 1933. This podcast is about grace and the ground we stand on. It’s rooted in stories, and lives, nature, observation, curiosity, wonder, and freely given faith existing in a hard-fought life. The ground that is ordinary, sometimes feels heavy and is somehow holy Welcome to Sweet Dirt. This is a public episode. Bondage to Independance

In this episode of Sweet Dirt, a windy Valentine’s Day mishap becomes an unexpected window into the human struggle with independence. When a little girl refuses to use a bag for her scattered valentines because she doesn’t want others to think she’s weak, it reveals something deeper: the same impulse many of us carry into our faith and daily lives. We want to look capable. We want to carry everything ourselves. But Scripture shows this struggle is nothing new—from Eve in the garden, to Israel longing for Egypt, to Paul’s confession in Romans that he cannot do the good he wants. Again and again, we resist dependence on God even while longing for His grace. The good news is that God already knows this about us. Instead of waiting for us to get it together, He comes to us—clothing, feeding, forgiving, and holding us together through Christ. Because in the end, we are not the ones who keep everything from falling apart. God does. This is a public episode.
