Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2509512/fan_mail/new] The Devil Wears Prada Book Review | Is the Book Better Than the Film? This week on The Dad Book Club, we're reading The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger—the bestselling novel that inspired the iconic film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. But here's the confession: I had absolutely no idea it was a book. Often remembered as a glamorous story about the fashion industry, The Devil Wears Prada is actually a sharp workplace satire about toxic bosses, career ambition, burnout, and what happens when your job starts taking over your life. We explore the differences between the book and the film, why Miranda Priestly is even more terrifying on the page, and whether Andrea Sachs is as sympathetic as audiences remember. We discuss the novel's portrayal of office culture, the pressures of success, work-life balance, and why so many readers—and viewers—see their own careers reflected in Andrea's journey through the world of high fashion. Plus, we answer the big question: is The Devil Wears Prada one of those rare cases where the film is actually better than the book? Join us as we dive into one of the most famous book-to-film adaptations ever made and discover whether this modern classic deserves its legendary reputation. Topics covered: * The Devil Wears Prada book review * Book vs film comparison * Miranda Priestly character analysis * Workplace culture and toxic bosses * Lauren Weisberger's bestselling novel * Meryl Streep and the film adaptation * Career ambition and burnout * The Dad Book Club podcast #TheDevilWearsPrada #BookReview #BookVsMovie #LaurenWeisberger #DadBookClub #BookPodcast #ReadingCommunity #MerylStreep #AnneHathaway #WorkplaceCulture #LiteraryPodcast #BookTok #BooksAndMovies

We compare the book, audiobook and film adaptation, discussing David Peace's intense writing style, the non-linear narrative, Brian Clough's obsession with Don Revie and Leeds United, and why the novel feels less like a football story and more like a psychological character study. We also explore the outstanding John Simm audiobook narration, Michael Sheen's portrayal of Brian Clough in The Damned United film, and ask whether the movie is actually an adaptation at all—or something entirely different. As a host from Derby, there's also a personal connection to the story, with discussion of Derby County, Brian Clough, Peter Taylor, Leeds United, English football history, football rivalries and the legacy of one of football's most fascinating figures. Bridge To Terabithia - NOT A KIDS MOVIE

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2509512/fan_mail/new] For this episode, we're diving into Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson, comparing the beloved novel, the 2007 film adaptation starring Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb, and the audiobook narrated by Richard Armitage. Why does the Bridge to Terabithia book hit so much harder than the film? Does the movie's visual depiction of Terabithia enhance the story or take away some of the magic? And why is Richard Armitage's audiobook performance one of the best ways to experience this modern children's classic? We discuss the deeper exploration of Jess Aarons' character, the powerful father-son relationship, the themes of friendship, grief, imagination and growing up, and why the novel's portrayal of loss remains one of the most emotionally devastating moments in children's literature. We'll also break down the strengths of the Bridge to Terabithia movie adaptation, including the fantastic performances from Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb and Zooey Deschanel, and discuss the heartbreaking museum scene that continues to affect audiences years after release. The Swan - Roald Dahl Vs Wes Anderson

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2509512/fan_mail/new] Sorry it's been a little while since my last upload! Life has been busy, but I'm back with another deep dive into a fascinating story. In this episode, we're looking at Roald Dahl's short story The Swan and comparing it with Wes Anderson's Netflix adaptation. We'll explore the dark themes hidden beneath Dahl's deceptively simple writing, the shocking cruelty faced by young Peter Watson, and how Anderson's unique visual style transforms the story for a modern audience. Was Wes Anderson faithful to the original Roald Dahl tale? Does the adaptation capture the tension, fear, and emotional impact of the short story? We'll discuss the key differences, standout performances, symbolism, and what makes The Swan one of Dahl's most disturbing and memorable works. Whether you're a lifelong Roald Dahl fan, interested in Wes Anderson movies, studying English literature, or just curious about Netflix's Roald Dahl adaptations, there's plenty to unpack here. Topics covered: * Roald Dahl's The Swan summary * Wes Anderson's The Swan adaptation * Netflix Roald Dahl collection * Themes and symbolism in The Swan * Peter Watson character analysis * Differences between the book and film * Wes Anderson directing style * Literary analysis and review Let me know in the comments: Did you prefer Dahl's original story or Wes Anderson's adaptation? #RoaldDahl #TheSwan #WesAnderson #Netflix #BookReview #ShortStories #Literature #FilmAnalysis #BookTube #MovieReview #EnglishLiterature #RoaldDahlAdaptation #Podcast #BookDiscussion #NetflixMovies

The Wild Robot - The Book Vs The Book Vs The Movie

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2509512/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I finally sit down and compare The Wild Robot properly — the original book, the film, and the kids version — after reading the full story with my daughter. On the surface they’re all telling the same story… but they don’t feel the same at all. The book is slower, quieter, and builds its emotion over time. The film goes in the opposite direction — bigger, more immediate, and much more focused on the parent-child relationship. And the kids version? That’s more of a stripped-back entry point. So the question becomes: 👉 which one actually works best? I get into: * how the book handles themes like survival, nature, and belonging * why the film leans so heavily into emotion and parenting * what gets lost (and what improves) when the story is simplified This isn’t just a “book vs film” debate — it’s more about how the same story changes depending on how you experience it. If you’ve watched the film, read the book, or you’re thinking about introducing it to your kids, this should help you figure out which version is worth your time.
