Descripción

Just when you thought the conversations coming out of New Zealand couldn't be better after hearing from both Fear Youth and Sophie Hart. - we bring you Tide Faavae. Unless you are a total newbie, you've marveled at Nathan Fa'avae's winning career. He won his first major adventure race in 1999, and shortly thereafter started a family with his wife Jodie - a 7x NZ MTB national champion. Suffice it to say that the 3 kids were exposed to a fair amount of athleticism and adventure. Tide Fa'avae is the youngest in the family, just 19, but is the first to tackle a expedition race. But Tide didn't race with her parents as one might expect - she raced with a bunch other "kids" (she was actually the oldest on the team!). We talk about growing up the Fa'avae household, her siblings, her first race, and her wisdom that most veteran teams could learn from. Legends: The Dark Wizard, Dean Potter

Dean Potter was an influential figure in adventure sports for nearly two decades, and perhaps the single person that influenced me the most in my 20's and 30's and my personal interactions with him are many and profound. His death in 2015 was a shock (but not necessarily a surprise) to many that knew him, and left a diverse community of climbers, high-liners, and wingsuit jumpers grappling with their own mortality. The recent release of "The Dark Wizard" documentary brings up a lot of memories, and leaves me reflecting on his impact, and a lot of my unresolved thoughts about his life and death. I'd strongly recommend watching the wonderful 4-part series either before, after, or in conjunction with this podcast - you won't be disappointed. Oh, and I found the image of my own "Dean Potter" moment that I mention in the podcast, and it serves are the episode art. What was i thinking?!? That is some long hair! (and the yoga-highlining with no harness was a bit out there too!)
