The Bible in a Year: Daily Reading & Devotion
Today's reading from Nehemiah 7–9 and Acts 3 reminds us that God changes people through His Word. Both passages show that when people encounter God's truth and understand it, something begins to happen beneath the surface. Hearts are awakened, perspectives change, and lives begin moving in a new direction. In Nehemiah, the people gather to hear the Book of the Law after returning from exile. As God's Word is read and explained, they experience conviction, worship, joy, and renewed obedience. The passage demonstrates that rebuilding a city was not enough. The people needed God's Word to rebuild their hearts and restore their relationship with Him. In Acts 3, Peter uses the healing of a lame man as an opportunity to point people to Jesus. As the crowd listens, they are confronted with the truth about Christ and invited to respond. Once again, God's truth becomes the catalyst for spiritual awakening and transformation. Together, these passages remind us that God's Word is never merely information. It has the power to reveal truth, strengthen faith, expose what needs to change, and draw people closer to God. As we continue returning to Scripture day after day, we place ourselves before the very thing God uses to shape us into the image of Christ.
