If I asked you, "What does it mean to be justified?" Most Christians would probably answer, "It means God forgave me." That's true. But it doesn't go far enough. Forgiveness means your debt has been canceled. Justification means your status has been changed. God didn't simply erase your record—He declared you righteous. He didn't just remove your sin. He credited Christ's perfect righteousness to your account. That's why Romans 8:33 doesn't simply tell us we're forgiven. It tells us, "God is the one who justifies." Paul uses the Greek word dikaioō—a courtroom term meaning to declare righteous, to pronounce innocent, to acquit. Because you'll never walk in confidence until you know whose you are.  The Greek word eklektos simply means chosen—belonging to God. Paul isn't writing this to create arguments about theology.
