Episode 42-Jess Waters: "The Divinity Streak"

The Dope Science Show Podcast is a science lifestyle podcast that discusses science, indie film, music, politics and everything in between. Making science an everyday conversation. We are all dope scientists! In this episode we hang out with me, your host, Stephany Lowe and Jess Waters. Jess is a Black non-binary TV writer who writes stories about re-conceptualizing queerness and Blackness. We discuss Jess’s most recent work; a short film called “The Divinity Streak” which is a part of the Netflix x Ghetto Film School Content Creation Program. “The Divinity Streak” is a drama about 3 black activists who hijack a space shuttle to Mars. We talk about how Jess’ Black queer identity is represented in their work and the importance of re-imagining history to tell Black stories from a Black non-binary queer perspective. Jess shares their list of artists who influence their work. We talk about music and their writing process and we reminisce about our very first time on set together.
