The EDGExperience host, Kimberly Wright-White, interviews University of Michigan’s WBB Head Coach, Kim Barnes Arico, in Ann Arbor. This interview reveals some of Arico’s views on women’s development in the sport and her time as head coach at St. John’s University. She reflects on recruiting in underserved communities and shares her views on how to improve women’s athletics, overall. Specifically, she talks about the impact of quality coaches in high school in preparation for female student-athletes transitioning to college athletics. She shares her reflections on Coach Felecia Oliver in Newark who nurtures and cultivates players like Nadirah McKineth who went on to be drafted and play in the WNBA are also highlighted by Kim Barnes Arico. Coach Arico is the University of Michigan’s winningest head coach. Remarkably, she earned the same accolade during her tenure at St. John’s(a title she held at St. John’s until the 2021-22 season). Under her leadership, UMWBB made their first Elite 8 in program history during their 2021-22 season. The UMWBB Team is also ranked #5 in the Big 10 Conference and is the 6th seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
