S3 Ep. 02 - "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Welcome to the Fast and the Fictitious, a podcast created by high school students as part of the dual enrollment Fiction course. In this episode, Allie, Piper, and Jasmine talk about "The Yellow Wallpaper," by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The ladies talk about topics ranging from postpartum depression and women's rights as they talk about the odd and sinister "treatment" the woman in the story receives after birth of her child. We hope you enjoy.
S3 Ep. 01 - "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Welcome to the Fast and the Fictitious, a podcast created by high school students as part of their dual enrollment Fiction course. In this episode, Noah, Kayden, and Isabelle talk about Gabriel Garcia Marquez' "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings," a story in which a, well, you guessed it, a very old man with enormous wings shows up unexpectedly at the home of a family with a sick child. Spoiler alert: the child gets better, but at what cost? The trio analyze the story and wonder what would happen if such a magical being arrived in their hometowns. S2 Bonus Episode; The Clips Show
S2 Ep. 22: "A Worn Path," by Eudora Welty
In this episode, Jamira, Jena, and Cheyenne talk about “A Worn Path,” by Eudora Welty. The story chronicles the journey of an old woman going to town to get medicine for her sick grandson. It sounds simple enough, but not for a black woman who is not that far removed from the life of a slave. The trio talk about the story and how they see the issues surrounding racism in modern times. Cheyenne had some audio issues in this episode, so my apologies to the listeners and to Cheyenne for having to cut some of what she said. Even still, it is a great conversation to hear because of the points of view of these students. We hope you enjoy. S2 Ep. 21: "What I Have Been Doing Lately," by Jamaica Kincaid
In this episode, Brayleigh, Abby, and Karlee talk about “What I Have Been Doing Lately,” by Jamaica Kincaid. The main character in the story finds herself trapped in a looping dream, but in each version, something is slightly different. In addition to the story, the girls talk about the nature of dreams, and Brayleigh shares that she’s not even sure if her life is real. We hope you enjoy.
