Descripción

The day after the Mueller hearings, Tyler and Larry discuss what happened, what the media reaction was, and what the fallout might be. The short version is that The Filibluster crew is “deeply disappointed” in Mueller’s approach to discussing his findings but also argue it wouldn’t have mattered much if he had been more forthcoming and explicit in his testimony. Tyler and Larry also discuss the options available to House Democrats from here and argue that one possibility that is not getting enough attention is that the House could impeach but the Senate could choose to just not hold a trial. You can read more about this possibility here: https://www.lawfareblog.com/can-senate-decline-try-impeachment-case. The Filibluster then inaugurates a new segment – “Focus Group of One” – in which we collect opinion data from an undecided 2020 Democratic Primary voter – in this case, friend of the podcast, David Deis. One key finding: we're pretty convinced we’re going to win an award. Email us at filiblusterpod@gmail.com and follow on Twitter @the_filibluster. Episode 34 - Wheat From the Chaff

It is that holiday time of year and you know what that means – impeachment! The Filibluster crew looks at some of the potential party defectors in impeachment votes in the House and Senate and we conclude that there are some members of Congress (Devin Nunes for one) who are just plain dummies. Tyler and Larry then turn their attention to the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination to assess the state of the race. We look at the positioning of each of the “big four” contenders, we “critique” the candidacy of Pete Buttigieg, and Larry argues that Amy Klobuchar still has a path to the nomination. Tyler and Larry then get listeners ready for the holidays by outlining how we would cast the Democratic presidential candidates into the appropriate roles at your family holiday celebration. Episode 33: Speaking of Things Young Liberals Don't Want

It is exactly one year out from the 2020 election and Tyler and Larry discuss the politics of impeachment with a particular focus on the electoral implications for each party’s congressional candidates. Impeachment is now a certainty but it seems almost as certain that Trump will not be removed from office. The Filibluster crew focuses in on what kinds of things could lead senators on either side of the aisle to break ranks on conviction and we name the most likely defectors. Tyler and Larry then talk about the four categories of Democratic presidential candidates – those who have dropped out, the front-runners, those who could still break into the top tier, and … those who should drop out. They finish up with the kind of informative discussion the Trump administration urgently needs – the kinds of events at which Trump is most likely to get “booed” and why.
