episode The Concept of Traumatizability artwork

The Concept of Traumatizability

There is probably a spectrum of traumatizability. Some people, for reasons that span psychology, biology, spirituality, and beyond, just don't deeply internalize damage the way the world expects them to. I share something I have carried for nearly 20 years: a vague sense that a sexual violation happened to me when I was young, which became as close to confirmation as I will probably ever get during a meditation retreat in India on my honeymoon. And my most honest report is that it didn't hurt that much. I share the concept of traumatizability, which I have held in my pocket for five years, the geometry of the soul and what I mean by symmetry and structural integrity, how the experience did affect me in ways I didn't expect, and why I no longer want to wear "I'm not traumatizable" as armor. We close on what this might mean for you: where do you find yourself on the spectrum of traumatizability, what factors might contribute to that, and is there something you have been wearing as armor that is actually asking to be held with a little more humility and reverence. When Is This Version of You Ready to Die

If you’d like to continue this conversation with me live, join us this Friday in The Membership [https://flynnskidmore.com/community]. The central question: is violent self-murder ever necessary, or is it actually the part of us refusing to consent to a death that's already trying to happen? I share what came up for me sitting with that question, starting with a week of post-dental agony that led me to something I want you to feel more than understand: all you are is space, and what we are looking for in every choice we make is the non-refusal of space. That space is filled with what I call the three-blade ceiling fan: creation, maintenance, and destruction, spinning so fast you cannot distinguish them. When creation slows and maintenance takes over, destruction comes in. The question is whether we consent to it or fight it. My hope is that you walk away with a felt sense of the intelligence that's already at work in you, and the understanding that you probably don't have to learn how to destroy the versions of yourself that need to go. You just have to learn how to stop refusing the destruction that's already underway. episode My Jealousy Journey artwork

My Jealousy Journey

If you’d like to continue this conversation with me live, join us this Friday in The Membership [https://flynnskidmore.com/community]. In the first seven months of my relationship with Julia, I was jealous. Not hyper controlling, but a silent suffering that verged on obsessive compulsiveness. I was beginning and ending my days with anguish, rage, despair, blame, and frustration. I share the full arc of that experience, what triggered it, what it revealed in me, why none of the tools I tried worked, and how Julia's extraordinary capacity for dignified connection, what I call the Roger Federer of relationship form, was so foreign to my pattern of closing off that it destabilized me. I also share how the transformation happened, not through a specific practice, but through living in alignment and letting the distortion, like a wonky wheel, smooth itself out in the container of a committed relationship. We close on what this journey has made possible: a genuine desire to connect with her ex, and a relationship that is a multiplier of her liberation and mine.
