The Friday Vinyl Club Podcast – Albums, Vinyl Records, Personal Music Memories and Stories
The Friday Vinyl Club podcast, where every day feels like Friday, and every album tells a story. Welcome to the debut episode of One for the Vinyl Den, a new monthly new music discovery series on the Friday Vinyl Club Podcast! The format is a simple music review challenge: every month, host Ollie curates a personalized monthly playlist of 5 emerging indie tracks he’s been spinning. He sends them over to Papa (Jamie) for a week of repeat listening. Then, they sit down in the studio to connect, share music memories, debate what worked, and ultimately Papa decides which single track earns the ultimate honour: being pressed onto imaginary a custom 7-inch vinyl record for the family vinyl record den. For this first episode, Ollie’s goal was to actively challenge Papa’s traditional rock and vinyl palette. Moving away from the nostalgic classic rock and throwback tunes they shared while Ollie was growing up, this curated tracklist leans heavily into modern dream pop, lo-fi indie, acoustic country, and global music discoveries. From Spotify algorithm recommendations to solo travel inspirations, this episode covers the evolution of music streaming vs. physical record collecting. Did Papa stick to his favorite late-90s British indie sounds, or did a quiet, soothing foreign-language track weave its way into his brain? The final 7-inch vinyl selection might just surprise you. Ollie's June 2026 Playlist: * "Glistening" by Flipturn ◦Genre: Modern Indie Rock / Alternative ◦The Vibe: A warm, atmospheric, and nostalgic track out of Florida with a cinematic guitar riff reminiscent of classic driving tunes, drawing comparisons to Delamitri, Crowded House, and U2. * "Love" by Wave to Earth ◦Genre: Korean Indie / Lofi Dream Pop / Jazz Fusion ◦The Vibe: A smooth, jazz-infused track Ollie discovered during a solo trip to Seoul, South Korea. Boasting incredible production values, its smooth R&B groove shares striking similarities with Daniel Caesar’s Freudian album. * "Make Me Wonder" by Solan Holt ◦Genre: Acoustic Country Music / Indie Folk ◦The Vibe: A vulnerable, acoustic guitar-led track exploring the complicated, silent spaces right before a relationship breakup. A brilliant showcase of storytelling lyrics that stands alongside mainstream country artists like Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen. * "Despierto" by Andrea Bejar ◦Genre: Latin Indie / Acoustic Spanish Music ◦The Vibe: A beautifully simple, soothing acoustic guitar piece centered around unconditional love and family. Despite the language barrier, its comforting melody acts as an emotional entry point to global indie music. * "Dream Walker" by Dog Park ◦Genre: East Coast Indie Rock / College Alternative ◦The Vibe: The punchiest, highest-energy song on the playlist. Featuring a driving beat, restlessness, and escapism themes, it captures a distinct late-90s British indie pop / Britpop revival sound akin to early Stereophonics or Two Door Cinema Club. * Host: Ollie (Bringing the modern digital streaming perspective) * Co-Host: Jamie / "Papa" (Bringing the traditional vinyl enthusiast perspective) * Shout-outs & Influences: Mentions of podcast guests, Laura, John, Eleanor, and a deep-dive discussion on why we connect to lyrics and music memories.
