the friend I needed
[ ep 6 ] I used to write “good job” lists to myself when I was in a dark period of my life…getting out of bed, making a healthy meal, helping another person even when I was unsure I had enough energy for myself, having a moment of positivity even when it was difficult, and so on. I don’t do them nearly as often and find that I’ve been overlooking the small things I do everyday. for one, acknowledging the small makes you aware of how far you have come…doing things without hesitation when they would have taken a great deal of effort before. we also can be focused on lack – the disappointment for not getting to the things we “should have” that day. give yourself the credit and acknowledge all that you do in a day, yes the more obvious, but reflect on even the small!!! we will find that we are doing much more than we think whether it be in our internal or external world. we can be so focused on progressing to a greater version of ourselves or our lives that we lose perspective. appreciate how far you have come and the blessing of being where you are right now. comparison to a more ideal life or self deters us from seeing how good we actually have it.
