The Future of Education Talk
Education for Sustainable Development [https://www.unesco.org/en/education/sustainable-development/need-know]is UNESCO's effort in solving the environmental and social challenges we are facing right now. It emphasises education's role in sustainability and encourages lifelong learning as part of the solution to the urgent and complicated issues we have. Challenge Lab [https://challengelab.chalmers.se] is an initiative started at Chalmers University to respond to the demand for sustainable development. Its main aim is to support society's transition to a more sustainable future. It builds a space that allows students from different backgrounds to come together in solving complex sustainability challenges with stakeholders from educational institutes, businesses, and governments. Students here work as neutral facilitators in various organizations bridging perspectives from different stakeholders. It currently hosts two courses and a Master's thesis lab, which the courses exist as individual learning opportunities and at the same time function as a toolbox for the Master's thesis. Guest: Johan Holmen Johan Holmen is a postdoctoral researcher in sustainability transformations and social learning. He has also been part of establishing and running the Challenge Lab at Chalmers University, in Gothenburg Sweden. He has a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Energy Systems, and he wrote his PhD dissertation in "Navigating Sustainability Transformations: Backcasting, Transdisciplinarity and Social Learning".
