Episode 2: Making 'Maybe I'm gay' - music and dementia and raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's Research UK
Released on 10th October 2025, 'The Gift' is unique in many ways: it's a debut album from a new artist, and a platform to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's Research UK. The first single, 'Maybe I’m gay' is out now. Available on all streaming and download platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, and Deezer.
Described as an album of protest pop, soul with singer songwriter vibes, and hints of latin and bossa nova, 'The Gift' is the debut album from DJ-turned-artist F Monday — a deeply personal and experimental AI music concept. It moves through protest, grief, joy, and self-acceptance, weaving multiple musical genres to take listeners on a journey about identity: being queer, being vulnerable, and being human.
In this episode F Monday's talks in more detail about the making of the first track to be released, 'Maybe I'm gay'. "It captures my experience as a cis gay man — feeling different, othered, and at times, excluded, even within the LGBTQIA+ community. Over time, I found self-acceptance by recognising that many of those feelings are universal — and that being queer is universal too."
All proceeds from 'The Gift' are in aid of the charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK. It is estimated that 982,000 people are living with dementia in the UK today, rising to 1.4 million by 2040. In 2022 it was the leading cause of death in the UK. Globally the World Health Organisation estimates that 57 million people have dementia. New cases are occurring at the rate of nearly 10 million each year, which breaks down to about one new case every 3.2 seconds. In the UK, the estimated economic impact of dementia in 2024 was £42.5 billion, a figure that is expected to more than double by 2040.
From the bold protest-soul anthem Maybe I’m Gay, to the revelatory Hello God :-), and the aching intimacy of The Gift (the title track), to the playful EDM-lite Not Just Friends and the pop rock Feel The Love, the album explores the emotional spectrum of a life lived openly.
Created through collaboration with AI tools, The Gift is both an experiment in technology and an act of self-discovery. It’s a reminder that music can be a mirror — and sometimes the greatest gift is learning to see yourself clearly in it.
Every play or download helps get one small step closer to a cure for dementia. Thank you.
