The Grateful Artist Podcast
Welcome to our weekly Sparks Podcast, where we explore the sparks that ignite our creativity, grow our ideas, and help us live more inspired lives. I’m Stephanie, artist and writer, and I’m here with my good friend Evan, a prolific author of five, soon-to-be six books for creators and a dedicated art gallery owner. Evan’s about to leap into his most profound chapter yet, and I can’t wait to see what sparks fly. This week, we dive into the topic of setting new goals and the power of sharing your ideas. Evan introduces the concept of “The Soulzy Project, a fun way to approach your goals with openness. We talk about two different strategies: announcing your goals loudly for accountability or keeping them quiet to build momentum before sharing. I share that I do both, sometimes I keep things quiet, other times I share when I have a strong feeling they’ll come true. It’s about trusting your instinct. We also explore the idea that inspiration can come from the most unexpected places. A song snippet, a chance conversation, or even just quiet observation can spark a breakthrough. Sometimes, the universe nudges us toward our next big idea when we least expect it, and staying open is key. I share a story about how an odd moment of inspiration flipped my perspective, reminding us that silence often holds the loudest ideas. Next, Evan brings up a powerful scene from Schitt’s Creek - about a character explaining his pansexuality through a wine metaphor. It’s a perfect example of how storytelling and nuance can help us see the world differently. Simple moments like these can challenge our assumptions and open us to new ways of understanding. We’re always learning, always evolving. Finally, we talk about how stories control us, whether they’re helping us or holding us back. Rebecca Solnit reminds us that some stories sink ships, and many of us go down with those ships because we believe them to be true. The key is to stop being your story, to step out of it, and to take the life raft instead. Our journey is about finding the courage to break free and create something new. Stay tuned for more sparks and inspiration, because your best ideas are waiting, just beneath the surface.
