Descripción

There's a doctor in the house. Raina Patel, of the famed St. Martin's Nursery School Class of 1982, joins Jason to talk about queens, fairy stepmothers and the worst date ever, among other things. The Hammersla Exposition is the prose-only, non-union equivalent of the Inquisition. Read and subscribe at www.buttondown.email/hammersla All rights reserved. Lefts, too.

A Hammersla Disquisition: On the Beatles, Getting Back and Letting it Be

In this special bonus episode, host Jason Hammersla is joined by friends of the show and musical experts Eric R. Danton and Jeremy Rothman to break down the Get Back documentary airing on Disney+. The guys dig deep on prison movies, fur coats and the ominous power of toast. A few post-editing observations: - Man, do I have some smart friends. - Eric argued at one point that tight deadlines are bad for creativity, and while I can see his point with respect to the extremes, I think if I were quicker on my feet or if I had time to summon a cogent argument, I could make a case that boundaries and limits -- or at least the convincing illusion of boundaries and limits -- can be a powerful creative impetus. But that's a subject for another time. - I'd like to point out that, despite Jeremy's protest, I never said the words "The Beatles" and "Destiny's Child" in the same sentence. I was comparing Destiny's Child to Genesis, for whom we all know Phil Collins was the Beyonce of his era. - Personally, I was much more impressed George Harrison's bespoke pink pinstripe suit than Glyn Johns' azure-colored spectacles or John Lennon's lemur fur coat, or whatever that was. - The breakout star of the film, as far as I am concerned, is Heather McCartney. - We never did get around to revealing the name of the famous person in Jeremy's phone. He said the initials were "S.M.," but I assume that was thinly-veiled code for "S&M," which means whoever Jeremy is hiding is into some freaky, freaky stuff. My guess is Dame Judy Dench.
