Samuel Beckett & Waiting for Godot

Playwright, poet, translator member of the French Resistance, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Samuel Beckett had a fascinating life (and possible the best face in literature). Born in Ireland, he moved to Paris as a young man and remained there during World War 2 stating famously that he would prefer to "live in Paris at war than in Ireland at peace". Stabbed on the streets of Paris, he was rescued by the woman who would later become his wife. Beckett's plays changed challenged people's expectations about theatre, and his audiences reacted with contempt, disgust and bewilderment.  Join Louis, Nathan, Giovanna, Rufaro, and Raul, - this week's Five from The Hive as they mull over Beckett's life and works.
