The Honoring Educators Podcast
Recorded live at the Hartley Outdoor Education Center during the Outside the Classroom Camp-Style Overnight PD Experience, this episode features a conversation with nationally recognized educator, speaker, storyteller, and self-described “unicorn protector” Kevin Honeycutt. What started as a discussion about karaoke and camp culture quickly turned into a deeper conversation about connection, creativity, belonging, and what makes great schools and great educators stand out. In this episode, we discuss: 🦄 Protecting the “unicorns” in our schools and why creative and passionate students and educators deserve more than tolerance—they deserve support. 🌲 The magic of camp-style professional learning and why stepping away from our daily routines can help us reconnect with the joy of learning. 🏫 “Bend the system to match the kids instead of bending the kids to match the system” and what that mindset looks like in practice. 💡 What gives Kevin hope about the future of education and the educators who continue to show up, learn, grow, and serve kids. A special thank you to everyone who helped make the Outside the Classroom experience possible, including: • Kevin Honeycutt • Mark Lyons • Saginaw ISD • REMC Association • Hartley Outdoor Education Center • Outside the Classroom • The organizers, presenters, volunteers, and staff who made this event possible 🌐 Learn more about Kevin Honeycutt: https://www.kevinhoneycutt.org/ [https://www.kevinhoneycutt.org/]
