Descripción

At around 6:30 PM on October 26th, 1965, police entered the home of Gertrude Baniszweski, after she had sent one of her children to call them from a nearby payphone. She led the officers to a makeshift bedroom in her basement, where the emaciated, beaten, and mutilated body of a teenage girl was lying on a soiled mattress. The girl was Sylvia Likens, a 16-year-old girl under Gertrude’s care. Gertrude handed the police a letter Sylvia had written to her parents, detailing her plan to run away, and explained that Sylvia had left with several teenage boys before returning naked from the waist up, and holding this note. She also showed them that she had been attempting, albeit unsuccessfully, to treat Sylvia’s wounds with rubbing alcohol. After showing investigators Sylvia’s body, Gertrude’s daughter, Paula, held tight to her Bible and announced to the room that Sylvia’s death was meant to happen, and that if Sylvia’s sister, Jenny, would like to continue living with them, they would eagerly treat her as their own sister. Police wanted to speak to Jenny, but when they did, they found her answers to be rigid, and almost rehearsed. She repeated almost exactly Gertrude’s version of events, but just as the officers were walking away, Jenny whispered to them, “You get me out of here and I’ll tell you everything.” Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Threads: @housewifediditpod  Check out our website and merch at https://the-housewife-did-it.square.site We have an exciting opportunity for EVRY-one! True Crime S4 Episode 22: The Case of Lavinia Fisher

On February 4th, 1820, the Constitutional Court of South Carolina sentenced Lavinia and John Fisher to be hanged. Two weeks later, the two stood on the gallows in front of the Old City Jail in Charleston, having handled the news of their execution very differently. John allowed the Reverend Richard Furman, a local minister, to read a letter he had written, in which he pointed out that he had accepted Christ into his life and could not be executed without telling the full truth. Which was that he was innocent of any crimes, and that he hoped God would show mercy to those who had wronged him by sentencing home to death. After the letter was read, John asked the crowd of 2000 to forgive him and spare him. His wife, on the other hand, simply said, “Save your words for others that want them. If you have any message you want to send to Hell, give it to me, and I’ll carry it!” Sources: * Wikipedia (Lavinia Fisher, Old City Jail, Oleander) * Buzzfeed Unsolved * Ghost Tour of Old City Jail Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Threads: @housewifediditpod  Check out our website and merch at https://the-housewife-did-it.square.site Use discount code MARY788 on any orders from Evry Jewels for money off of your order, including sale items! True Crime S4 Episode 20: The Murder of "Tent Girl"

In the late 1980s, a man named Wilbur Riddle was getting to know his soon-to-be son-in-law in Livingstron, TN by pulling out one of his best stories. It had, over time, begun to become an urban legend in their small Kentucky town. But, Wilbur was THERE. He knew the real story. In May of 1968, Wilbur Riddle was scavenging for glass insulators along Route 25 in Kentucky, in an attempt to help his friend who was using them for an art project. As he was looking, he came upon what seemed like a large tent wrapped up on the side of the road. As he got closer, he nudged the tent with his foot, and was overcome by the smell of decay, and it became clear that Wilbur had actually found the decomposing body of a woman wrapped in a heavy green tarp.  Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Threads: @housewifediditpod  Check out our website and merch at https://the-housewife-did-it.square.site [https://the-housewife-did-it.square.site] We have an exciting opportunity for EVRY-one!
