The Housewife Did It
On the morning of January 15th, 1947, stay-at-home-mom Betty Bersinger was walking with her 3-year-old daughter on South Norton Avenue in Leimert Park, Los Angeles. As she walked by a vacant lot, she saw what appeared to be a discarded store mannequin laying on the ground. It was pale, undressed, and seemed to be broken in half. As she stepped closer, she saw that this was no mannequin. It was instead the nude body of a woman, who had been drained of blood, severed in half, and posed in a largely underdeveloped neighborhood midway between Coliseum Street and West 39th Street.
