The Juco Pod 2.0
This week brought major shakeups at the top of the NJCAA Division 1 rankings. John A. Logan took a four spot tumble after getting swept by Southwestern Illinois, while Walters State and Florence Darlington both climbed after perfect weeks. Johnson County and Gaston continue to hold down the top two spots with overwhelming offensive production, and Cloud County remains locked in at No. 4 after sweeping Seward County. In Division 2, Kellogg surged three positions after a statement five win week, and Iowa Central jumped two spots behind a 31 to 9 explosion. Division 3 saw Hudson Valley seize the No. 1 ranking despite a late stumble, while Rowan Cumberland made a statement six win climb into the top 10. The CCCAA opening round is in the books and the bracket tells a wild story. El Camino, Riverside, and San Joaquin Delta have all been eliminated after dropping both games, while Fresno City, Palomar, Ohlone, Santa Ana, Santa Rosa, and Citrus all advanced with perfect showings. We break down every NorCal and SoCal super regional matchup and give our predictions on who punches their ticket to the state final four. In the NWAC, Linn Benton vaulted two spots after taking three of four from Lane in a monster series, while Spokane swept their way up the board with four straight wins over Treasure Valley. Our Players of the Week segment is absolutely loaded. Collin Senkpeil of South Suburban put up numbers that sound made up. A .704 average. A 2.158 OPS. Nineteen RBIs. Oh, and he hit for the cycle against Triton before launching a walk off bomb against Elgin two days later. Elijah Morales answered the playoff bell with a cycle of his own for Dawson. Sebastian Palma slugged 1.700 for Dallas Eastfield. And the pitching? Five no hitters in one week. Lucas D’Agostino fired a seven inning masterpiece with ten strikeouts for RCSJ Cumberland. Freshman Jayden Peterson made his first college start a memorable one, no hitting Madison in a game that ended a 35 year drought for the WolfPack. Connor Beall, Gredan Wolf, and Jakob Grant all joined the no hit parade with dominant efforts of their own. We also spotlight the Teams of the Week. Southwestern Illinois swept John A. Logan and East Central while outscoring opponents 49 to 8 behind Jake McGhee’s 1.674 OPS. Lansing Community College went 7 and 0 with a .471 team average and 42 stolen bases. Camden County went 5 and 0 with 24 steals and walk off resilience. Hartnell took down No. 8 San Joaquin Delta to build state tournament momentum. And Linn Benton proved they can hang with the NWAC elite by winning a 14 inning marathon and taking three of four from Lane. Plus, we map out the full NJCAA postseason bracket picture. From Region 5 in Texas to Region 6 in Kansas to Region 18 in Idaho, we walk through every opening round matchup and highlight the coaches hitting milestone win totals.
